DOCUMENTATION PROBLEMS

Example 1: This program had only a few documentation problems.

  1. There is no readme file on the root of the CD or any other supporting documentation.

  2. In the Help section, there is no explanatory text for the Navigation tools.

  3. In "Ask the Guide" the information for "How do I export my presentation?" is missing.

  4. In "Ask the Guide", under "select a presentation layout", the last line of text has two words run together.

Example 2: This medical product had many missing entries in the help file that the publisher wasn't aware of.

  1. In the Abbreviations and Nomenclature section of the help file, the abbreviations for the work titles, for the collation of language names, and the general abbreviation index are all missing or broken links.

  2. Some of the help file links from the index are broken and give the message "file not found". These include the following:

    "B-What do the buttons mean?"
"D-How can I see all the different parts of an entry?"
    "D-Display Etymology-Pronunciations, Spellings, Etymology"
    "D-displaying results list-Changing the order"
    "E-entries finding-How do I find a word?"
"E-entries map-Viewing the map of an entry"
"E-Entries opening-How do I get to the dictionary entry?"
    "E-entries printing-Printing an entry".

  3. There are a couple of help files that are incomplete such as "P-Printing entries" and "S-saving entries".

  4. There also is no way to return to the Index in the help file once a letter is chosen. By this we mean if you click on the letter 'P' from the index and don't see the entry that you need, you must manually scroll all the way to the top since there is no 'Back' or 'Return to Top' link.
