INSTALL TESTING

Example 1: Application only installs to "C" drive or startup drive.

The Teacher Management installation does not give the installer a choice of where to put the actual application. You are given a choice of where to put the report files, but the application is always installed to a folder on the C: drive in Windows and to the startup drive in Macintosh. This happens even though we specified a different drive as the installation drive on both platforms.

The installation should really allow the installer to chose another local hard drive for the application files, if they want to. There may be situations where the C: drive is low on space or for security reasons the school administrator may want to put the application files on another local hard drive. On one of our older Macs with a very small internal hard drive we could not install the application files on an external hard drive, which was the only place we had free space.

Example 2: Improvement needed for network installer.

The program for the Windows Network Install only works if you choose the root of a network drive. The documentation and onscreen instructions don't tell you this. Most network programs allow you to install to locations that are subdirectories on a network.

Example 3: Install failure only on certain platforms.

The following message comes up three times during the install, but only on Windows NT and 2000 systems. On other platforms, the installation terminates normally.
